On 24 September 2014, Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC), a member organization, is holding a Grand Opening for its new veterans’ lounge at 4525 Education Park Drive on the LCCC Main Campus in Schnecksville. Racing for Recovery’s™ motivational speaker, Todd Crandall, is coming to Bethlehem at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity on evening of 18 September. This may be of interest to some of our comrades or their families who have suffered the effects of alcohol/drug abuse or addiction. On 24 September 2014 at DeSales University, the Rotary Club of Saucon/Center Valley has arranged for a local American History historian of renown, Professor Donald L. Miller of Lafayette College, to talk on “Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys who fought the air war against Nazi Germany”. Expect a riveting account of the stoic courage of these men who fought a new kind of warfare. Miller is currently working with Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks on the production of an HBO mini-series based on the book. Tickets are $35 for the limited seating event. (more…)

Our Team Leader, Robin Carmody, is now recruiting readers for the coming school year. It is a simple mission. The word on the street is that this program has been well received as a pilot project. Effective 1 July 2015, a little mentioned section of the Veterans Access, Choice, And Accountability Act of 2014 signed into law by the President on 7 August will have huge consequences to Pennsylvania’s public institutions of higher learning. It may well affect the well-being of about 25,000 veterans who are students and up to $300 million in state revenues from the federal government to Pennsylvania’s institutions of higher learning.
Section 702 of that law states:
… the Secretary shall disapprove a course of education provided by a public institution of higher learning (more…)

During the this year, Northampton Community College will be exploring the topic “Off to War and Coming Home: Historical perspectives on Military Veterans During and After Their Service, 1946-Present” through a series of discussions, and presentations made possible by a grant form the National Endowment for the Humanities matched by generous donors. Ritter Elementary School at 740 N Plymouth St, Allentown, PA 18109, is again having its annual, fifth grade student’s veterans’ interview day (to be later followed by a veterans day celebration). The interviews are 
projected to be conducted on October 8th. This is one of the oldest school events involving veterans in the Lehigh Valley and has a sterling reputation among veterans from our community who have participated. It is a tradition carried on by the teachers themselves in remembrance of our veterans and their contributions to our nation and community.
