Are You an Idiot About Education?

We Want You!

Do you want to help veterans to successfully transition or the military in meeting its recruiting needs?  Do you believe in the value of a meaningful education towards that end?  Do you have the vim to see such an effort through? If so, consider joining our Scholarship Team.

The LVMAC Programs Committee is seeking three additional individuals to help market and administer LVMAC’s Scholarship Program (its oldest program). The program assists Lehigh Valley veterans seeking training/retraining to qualify for local, well-paying jobs (sometimes helping to rebuild their lives in the process); and also encourages young men and women to serve and defend our nation as military junior officers, so vital to the needs of the military.  This is a unique program in this Lehigh Valley; and the amounts it awards worthy individuals over time is no small sum.

One need not be a veteran to be part of the team – LVMAC is about government and community gathering together to solve local military and military veteran issues.  Being a member of an LVMAC member organization is preferred but not required. Being advocate for the practical, problem-solving value of education is much more important.  Experience as an educator is a plus.

However, being “computer literate” is absolutely necessary.  The ability to use email, electronic documents, virtual meeting products such as Zoom, and Google Drive are requirements because the scholarship team uses mostly an all-electronic process to receive and evaluate applications and coordinate its activities. The advent of multiple adult learning curriculum start dates in colleges, universities and institutes, has necessitated the use of rolling deadlines to meet student needs.  Therefore, we use electronic processes to ease work scheduling of our volunteers.
