Occasionally, a local business comes to us in hopes of reaching out to our military-veterans community with a benevolent idea of worth not tied to the need to improve their business — in other words, playing their part in supporting those who often selflessly defend us with an act of selfless community-service of their own. Jack Lehr, Inc. is one of these. Its particular focus is on helping those Lehigh Valley families where a spouse has orders for deployment with a year’s worth of heating maintenance services at no charge. Jack Daniel’s and the Armed Services YMCA Operation Ride Home program helps bring military families together for the holidays. Operation Ride Home sponsors travel for eligible service members and their dependents to travel from their duty station back home to spend time with their families. Reconnecting military families during this special time of year is one small way Operation Ride Home is strengthening military families. (more…)
Yet another glitzy and confusing acronym has appeared on the veterans scene: MAVRIC, which stands for “Military and Veterans Information/Resource Center.” But as our combat buddy, Bill Shakespeare, once said, “What’s in a name? that which we call a rose … By any other word would smell as sweet …” And, indeed, this one smells sweet. Although originally created to address a Pennsylvania Guard “Family” need, the program has application to veterans and their families as well. In fact, the Pennsylvania’s Department of Banking and Securities is offering the event to both groups. Click here to go directly to the registration site. After attending, give us your feedback.
