LVMAC Tidbit — Still Serving Homeless Veterans
Our Only Homeless Veterans Shelter in the Lehigh Valley Seeks Your Assistance
It may not be as fashionable these days to talk about transition shelters for the chronic homelessness, with all the new emphasis on Housing First models (permanent housing with at least initial case management) and preventive services, but like shoes for feet, “one size does not fit all.” There is a place for this service which wraps itself around a chronically homeless veteran and assists him/her in recovery to the point that he/she resumes a productive life – and being concerned about the continuum of care often needed afterwards.
It may not seem glorious work, but it is service to our country and its veterans nonetheless. The valley should be proud of Victory House of the Lehigh Valley. It has been a community partner of care for over 25 years and has steadfastly worked with LVMAC since about 2006.
And since opening its sheltering doors in 1985, Victory House has changed the lives of more than 3,500 homeless men–veterans and non-veterans, since it serves both. That is quite an achievement for a small 40 bed facility, which once even smaller – testimony to the fact this sort of need has not lessened.
What you might also not know is that Victory House is the only VA-partnered transition shelter in the entire Lehigh Valley. Our concern? We don’t want to lose it, for Victory House is truly “a shelter in the storm of life every day of every year.” If you too have an interest is supporting it, check out these upcoming events:
