Special Efforts in Disability Assistance

Wounded Warrior Project #

The Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit focused on assisting veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound while serving in the military on or after September 11, 2001.  Everything it offers is  free.  What is most important, it offers boots-on-the-ground programs and services through various grantees.  It is more than talk; and one should consider it a private, supplemental service to what government offers.  It frequently partners with the VA.

Veteran Health Program #

Valley Health Partner’s Veteran Health Program is a model of a focused but holistic approach to assistance  in solving healthcare problems that more than a few veterans encounter, especially when having difficulties navigating the lachrymose American healthcare system. It must be acknowledged that veterans may need extra  help in navigating complex health care systems. This program addresses that plight. Its staff is deeply knowledgeable in veteran healthcare obtained through the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense systems — and can connect veterans to additional, surrounding services when appropriate.

Mobility Device Repair Services #

VA has partnered with Scootaround, the nation’s leading personal transportation solutions company, to provide a single point of contact for the repair of VA-issued wheelchairs, powerchairs, and scooters. The intention is to provide convenient, fast and efficient repairs and superior customer service seven days a week (8 a.m to 6 p.m.) by telephone, 1-888-583-VETS (8387), or 24/7 online.  See the attached flyer for QR Code.  [Editor’s Note: This service appears to be only currently available in VISN-4, which services our area.]
