Whether you are in one of the military services or are a veteran living in the Lehigh Valley, there are free tax services to assist you … of the online and face-to-tace variety. In no particular order, some of the options are listed below.
Option #1 — Military OneSource Tax Resource Center #
Military OneSource Tax Resource Center is useful to servicemembers, their families and survivors. It also provides for them to call Military OneSource at 800-342-9647 or live chat to schedule a free consultation with a MilTax consultant or a financial counselor at least virtually.
Option #2 — VITA and TCE Assistance #
The local IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program generally offers free tax help to people below a certain income level, have disabilities, or have limited English-speaking ability. Meanwhile, the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program also offers free tax help, particularly for those who are 60 years of age and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors These programs use .IRS-certified volunteers to .They can inform taxpayers about special tax credits .for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. Note that the majority of TCE sites are operated by the AARP Foundation’s Tax Aide program which has broader criteria (e.g. 50 years of age or older, low to moderate income). This locator has been typically better developed than the IRS’s and is useful for finding sites closer by in the Lehigh Valley.
Option #3 — Commercial Software from IRS #
freefile is an IRS website which provides a host of free commercial software from a changing list of suppliers, subject to certain support limitations, especially one exceeds a certain level of income (which changes yearly).
