Veterans Employment Program (DRAFT)

Introduction

“People are not your most important asset. The right people are.”

The above quote reflects our attitude on why many employers should seek out military veterans — that only a fool would not.

The military is a major source of skilled and semi-skilled labor in this nation.  It  places great emphasis on experience and proven performance in advancing individuals.  Yet despite the implied skills they carry with them upon departure from service as a result, military veterans are often unrecognized by the business community as to their worth.  And, the standard, white-collar, bureaucratic job approach to recruiting our target group adds to that dilemma..

Therefore, we think our VetPortfolio program is a useful tool towards resolving an existing problem.  It highlights a veteran’s skills and potential in a uniquely different way.  Using a standardized, tightly controlled and systematic ePortfolio approach, our product has been designed to expedite employer searches for that special veteran they need while also affording highly qualified veterans a more direct approach to getting needed interview opportunities, whereas they might be otherwise overlooked..

To the Veteran Seeking Employment: How to Begin

This program is oriented on the blue collar and first-level supervisor side of industry and selling the skills that veterans, upon active-duty separation, already have.  VetPortfolio allows you to market yourself “as-is” using a uniform, searchable E-Portfolio concept.  It is clean and simple – attempting to avoid common missteps in getting you to that all-important, first interview.  If interested, the process is as follows:

  1. Contact us using our specially designed website to generate an email request.  Note than an Honorable or General under Honorable Conditions Discharge is a mandatory pre-condition.  You are also expected to reside or ultimately reside in the Lehigh Valley region.
  2. You will then be connected to a Committee Coach to help you properly register, post and maintain your application on the website, vetportfolio.org.
  3. An employer will contact if interested in interviewing you.

Please do not apply to use our site unless you are seriously interested in selling the skills you already have.  In the same token, please do not underestimate the skills you have.  This is one reason we use committee coaches in addition a technological skills identification and filtering process.

To the Employer Seeking Veterans: How to Access the Best of the Best

We can connect your business to honorably discharged veterans with the skills you are seeking willing to work in the Greater Lehigh Valley area.  Our program is oriented on the blue collar and first-level supervisor workforce.  It emphasizes experience and proven performance.  Veterans are vetted on job qualifications, educational backgrounds, and creativity.

VetPortfolio’s goal is to be a networking site to connect military veterans with businesses which proactively  want to support veterans by hiring them with the skills that they already have and have job openings.

A recruiting committee consisting of several members experienced in professional recruitment culls and vets each applicant before posting an ePortfolio profile. The committee evaluates applying, discharged military veterans on their job qualifications, educational background, and other key factors.

If interested, the process for you is as follows:

  1. Contact us using our specially designed website to generate an email request to be allowed to use our website.
  2. An LVMAC employment committee member will contact you with further instructions.
  3. Inform of us of any special filters (tags or categories) that you need after reviewing the product.
  4. Once the the potential veteran employee is found through the VetPortfolio filtering process, the rest is up to whomever manages your hiring by contacting the applicant directly for an interview.

Note:  If interested as an organization in using this program on your website as a resource, please contact the program’s Co-Chair,Dave Newton at email address, JOVE@lvmac.org
