Caring for Others

Spread the Word as members of the Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council that the Veterans Military Council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce is once again looking for veterans and surviving spouses in need of exterior home painting and weatherizing — at no cost to the homeowner.

This award-winning “Brush Up or Veterans” program is meant to help honorably discharged veterans who are low-income, elderly, or permanently disabled.  Applications must be in by 21 March.

The basic eligibility requirements are:

• Your house must be in Lehigh County or Northampton County.
• The veteran, spouse, or surviving spouse must be 60 years of age or older or have a permanent disability at any age, and own the home that needs painting.
• Your home must be a single family dwelling that you occupy yourself. The house must be structurally sound and not in need of major repairs.

Scan the QR code in the flyer below or click on the flyer itself to access the application.

It is good to see member organizations actively trying to improve lives and living conditions for those who live in the Lehigh Valley. This program goes beyond the pure “self-marketing dance” we so often see when it comes to military veterans.

For those organizations also interested in sponsoring or volunteering, email Alison Pickel or Bailey Muhl.  It is a good opportunity to give back to help maintain our community and, as importantly, those in need deserving our attention. Candidates are carefully vetted.
